About Journal Club
Vision of the Club

Our club seeks to promote awareness of cutting-edge multidisciplinary research happening around the world while maintaining a welcoming and engaging environment that encourages participation and collaboration. We aim to develop members' skills in critical analysis, communication, and research methodology to enhance their academic and professional value, especially in the context of pursuing internships and postgraduate opportunities abroad. Through our efforts, we also seek to strengthen the student alumni network and foster lifelong learning and academic excellence among our members.

Mission of the Club

The Journal Club aims to equip its members with the essential skills and strategies necessary for critically reading and understanding research papers, enhancing their academic proficiency, and cultivating research interests. Our Club provides a platform for students to gain valuable insights, advice, and mentorship from experts in their field, especially on applying for competitive internships, master's, and PhD programs in India and abroad. Through our comprehensive approach to research literacy, members will gain a strong foundation for academic and professional success in their chosen fields.

Action Plan of the Club

1.      Abstract writing workshop

Our workshop on abstract writing provides a comprehensive overview of the basics of abstract writing for academic journals and conferences, as well as a detailed analysis of common mistakes and nuances in existing abstracts. The workshop aims to equip participants with the skills and knowledge necessary to craft compelling and effective abstracts that clearly and concisely convey the core ideas and findings of their research

2.      How to construct a review article

Through such discourse we aim to provide a comprehensive guide on writing a review, covering all the essential steps, including literature review, abstract writing, data analysis, discussion, managing references, and submitting the paper to a journal. Further to, we will provide useful tips and tricks to help you craft an effective and well-structured review that will capture the attention of the reader. Additionally, we provide constructive feedback to reviewers to improve the quality of the review process.

3.      Perfecting the art of Cold emails

The Journal Club serves as a platform to assist students in identifying faculty members and reaching out to them via email to secure internships, PhD or postdoctoral positions. This activity is designed to educate students on the fundamentals of approaching a Professor, evaluating their research, and crafting a compelling email that conveys confidence and aligns with the Professor's expectations. By participating in the Journal Club, students can enhance their communication skills and increase their chances of establishing meaningful academic connections

4.      Paper presentation

The Journal Club provides a platform for students and faculty members to share their research papers and ongoing projects, as well as other relevant research material of interest. During the club meetings, presenters will be given an opportunity to discuss their research (for a student if he finds a research paper in their field of interest and is keen on explaining it to everyone) while allowing members to ask questions and clarify any Doubts. This approach fosters critical thinking and enhances the students' ability to analyse research works and engage in productive discussions with fellow members. Furthermore, this initiative encourages open-ended questions that can be further discussed and analyzed during subsequent meetings(such session will be conducted regularly)

5.      SOP workshop

workshop on crafting statement of purpose for internships, master's, PhD, and postdoctoral positions will be conducted to assist students in developing impactful statements that meet all the necessary criteria. The workshop will cover all the critical components of an outstanding statement of purpose, including unique personal branding, clear career goals, and relevant achievements and skills. Students will gain a comprehensive understanding of how to craft an effective statement that stands out and creates a positive impression on the reader. By the end of such a workshop, students will be equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to construct a compelling statement of purpose that aligns with their career goals and aspirations.

6.      Q and A sessions for internships, building profiles, applying abroad

All the doubts about applying for the internships and masters abroad will be cleared and steps will be given to increase the value for their profile and to build upon. guidance will be provided to students applying abroad for internships, masters etc (such session will be conducted regularly)

7.      Critical thinking exercises

As part of their learning experience, members will be provided with research data and assigned tasks aimed at evaluating the purpose of the data, its significance, and the story that the data presents. By analysing the data and identifying its key elements, members will be able to develop and enhance their critical thinking abilities. The tasks assigned will encourage students and research scholars to think outside the box, consider various aspects of the data, and develop an analytical approach that will enable them to draw meaningful conclusions. The ultimate objective is to instil a culture of critical thinking that will be essential in their academic and professional pursuits.

8.      Mastering blooms taxonomy learning style
this technique is used by many researchers and PhD students to efficiently study a subject and increase their knowledge of mastery of the subject, things like blooms taxonomy pyramid, increasing retention time, increasing cognitive load capacity, creating mind maps etc which will help students perform well in exams and also will help them read research papers more efficiently.

9.      Poster making workshop

This initiative provides students with an opportunity to develop their poster design skills, with a focus on creating posters that are both attractive and professional. Students will be taught how to incorporate relevant content, write compelling introductions, adjust diagrams and illustrations, manage references, and select appropriate themes to ensure their posters stand out. By gaining a comprehensive understanding of the elements that contribute to an effective poster design, students will acquire the skills needed to present their research work in a clear and concise manner. This initiative emphasizes the importance of combining creativity and professionalism in designing posters that effectively communicate research findings.
